Throughout his career, Dr. Juergen Polle has worked at the intersection of fundamental and applied sciences, with expertise spanning cell cultivation, genomics, biotechnology, and biological process development. His research and industrial collaborations have focused on translating scientific discoveries into practical cultivation systems, advancing microalgal biotechnology from laboratory flasks to outdoor production ponds.

Working across both academic research and industrial biotechnology provided a unique perspective on how biological innovations evolve—from fundamental discovery to technologies with real-world impact. This experience laid the scientific and technological foundation for the next chapter of his career.

As his work progressed, Dr. Polle recognized that the expertise developed in cell cultivation could be applied far beyond microalgae. Although microalgae and coffee are fundamentally different organisms, both depend on establishing robust cell cultures, understanding biological growth, and developing reliable production systems.

At the same time, coffee production was entering a period of unprecedented challenge. Climate change, emerging diseases, and increasing global demand highlighted the need for complementary approaches that could help strengthen the future supply of coffee.

These converging scientific and global challenges inspired the founding of KaffeeTenango, bringing together decades of experience in biotechnology with a new vision for coffee.

Today, KaffeeTenango is focused on developing coffee plant cell cultivation as a complementary approach to traditional coffee production. By combining advances in biotechnology with strong partnerships in Guatemala, the company is working to translate scientific innovation into scalable solutions for the coffee industry.

Our goal is not to replace coffee farming, but to complement it by developing a reliable and sustainable source of real coffee. We believe that innovation is strongest when it builds upon the knowledge, experience, and heritage of coffee-growing communities.
